IndySoft Web-Tier Tools

IndySoft Web-Tier Tools is a supplemental product for the IndySoft Web-Tier edition. Because everything in Web-Tier runs in a web browser, a few hardware-specific functions can't operate exactly as they would on a native Windows machine. A quick install of Web-Tier Tools gives users the full benefits of hardware connected directly to their local workstation.

What Web-Tier Tools is for

  1. Smart printer and email routing — In the native IndySoft client, print documents can be auto-routed to multiple printers during a single print operation (for example, a laser printer for the certificate of calibration and a sticker printer for a calibration sticker). Each user's User/Location settings has five routable printer options. A web browser can only print to its default printer, so Web-Tier Tools performs this routing locally on the user's workstation, bypassing browser printing. Because reporting also happens locally, native email applications can be used and SMTP is not required.

  2. RS-232 data collection from local hardware — Web browsers can't access serial (RS-232) ports, so Web-Tier Tools lets users connect a piece of equipment locally and send measurement results directly to the Web-Tier application in the browser.

  3. Direct image scanning — Without Web-Tier Tools, scanning in a browser session means scanning in a local application, then selecting the scanned file via the browser's Open File dialog. Web-Tier Tools bypasses that step — you scan directly into the Web-Tier Tools application without having to save and re-select a file.

  4. Viewing the current print queue — Web-Tier Tools shows any print jobs currently in the queue.
