Uncertainty Setup

note

This topic discusses mapping an uncertainty budget you've created to the correct test point — not creating a budget from scratch.

Setting up uncertainty calculations is different from the standard setup for most equipment. When choosing the test point to map your uncertainty budget to, you need to consider the number of channels and test points.

In this example, we have 13 test points:

Uncertainty setup — 13 test points

Uncertainty setup — 13 test points

And 5 channels:

Uncertainty setup — 5 channels

Uncertainty setup — 5 channels

Calculating the uncertainty test-point index

Worst case, you'd have:

13 × 5 × 4 = 260 test points in the resulting calibration event

In general, the formula is:

[# test points] × [channels] × 4

Whatever result you get, add one to it. That's the test point used for all uncertainty calculations.

In the example above, that's 261:

Uncertainty test point — 261

Uncertainty test point — 261
